PowerPoints

Here is the link to a PowerPoint that I have created on self care. It has information straight from some of the references that I collected. It also shows some great displays and pictures on self care as well. (Kelly Amaturo)

I wanted to create a power point that presented readers with ideas and tips on how to prioritize self-care in their lives. By demonstrating the benefits of relaxing and enjoying life when one is faced with so many responsibilities. This power point is full of beneficial information ranging from sleep to nutrition. This is a great video that helps one nourish their soul, by enjoying life. This video encourages us to participate in the things one enjoys the most like going to the beach or taking a break from the day to day rate race we live in. How important it is to incorporate a 5 minute giggle into our life.

This website that I found seems to have amazing information about self care. The site comes from Student Health Service: University of Pennsylvania. It talks about how people dwell on the past and hold on to stressful moments. It teaches that practicing self care helps let go of those regretful moments and learn to be more positive. This website I found has a list of ways to practice self care. This list can really help people understand that there are so many different ways to practice self care. It also shares that self care is not all based on things involving money or that it is time consuming. Books

For my third book, I chose, "The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook: Your Self-Treatment Guide for Pain Relief, Second Edition." This book seems to have great information on relieving pain and stress. This book also talks about the different types of symptoms and how to learn to control these symptoms.

The second book that I really liked reading is called "Self care: An Empowerment and Spiritual Healing." This book talks about the many different ways on how self care can be healing to the spirit. Summary

Title: Self Care

(Kelly Amaturo & Yanele Benitez)

Self care is very important for the human body. It can do numerous things for the body such as relieving stress and making one happier with themselves and their life. Many people feel that they don’t have the time to practice self care or have the money to spend on practicing self care, but there are many different ways to practice that doesn’t involve money or isn’t too time consuming.

Some ways to practice self care can be anything from taking the time to breathe and learn how to control the breathing to taking a Yhot bubble bath and relaxing (Woods, 2012). Many people find it relaxing to go for a stroll in the park or just to smile more throughout the day. Practicing self care is an extremely easy thing to teach one’s self. Self care can improve one’s physical health as well as one’s emotional health (Scott, 2007). To improve one’s physical health can be anything from exercising more to eating healthier. This can replace stress with confidence and relaxation. To improve one’s emotional health is very undemanding. Emotional health can be improved by simply doing things that make one happy. To value one’s self is the key to emotional health in self care.

“To practice self-care effectively, you need to listen to your internal “wise voice” (Practice Self-Care: Ask Us Why, 2012).” Listening to internal voice is anything from listening to an instinct, to listening to one’s spiritual self. It is very often that our thoughts become repetitive and sometimes full of regret when thinking about the past. Then there are times when our thoughts are full of stress and anxiety when thinking about the future. Practicing self care helps people learn to let go of the stress and be mindful. It gives off such a positive reaction and it is highly recommended that self care is practiced more often.

Tyler Cluff – Practice Summary of Self-Care

Intro:  When I chose to discuss about the practice of self-care I was excited because after reading about what self-care I realized it would be something I would enjoy.  Self-care involves anything that promotes a physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental well-being.  I chose to concentrate on exercise and healthy eating to promote physical and emotional well-being.  Initially, the practice of self-care was difficult but it came with great reward.  I researched healthy ways to exercise and read about nutrition to get the most benefit out of self-care.

Personal:  Practicing self-care and choosing to exercise more often and eat healthy was a challenge.  At first, I had no motivation and no friends to motivate me to exercise and I had to use my own will power to get to the gym.  I knew that I needed to change the types of food in my fridge and cabinets.   On the emotional side of self-care, with the help from my fiancé she was able to keep me positive and offer cooking healthy meals.  After reading more about nutrition, much of my kitchen has nutritious and healthy food rather than junk food.

Professional:  I found that the professional side of self-care was much easier than the personal side.  Many of my co-workers are into fitness and nutrition and it was easy for me to get motivation my learning from them and participating in their fitness exercises.  One of my co-workers was doing the Insanity workout and offered me to join in.  After doing that one exercise, I got a copy of the Insanity program and started it myself.  I let me co-workers know that I was in the process of eating healthier and wanting to change my lifestyle and they were very receptive and offered to cook healthier dinners so we all could eat together.

Summary:  After reading about the nutrition side of self-care I found out was more important than exercising.  Many books and articles summarized you get out what you put into your body.  This experience of practicing self-care has been a lifestyle change.  After reading about different types of workouts and nutrition I have found that they are both beneficial and not just one in particular.  I have really enjoyed participating in practicing self-care and making a lifestyle change.

Hi Kelly and Yanele,

from (Daryll Bruno)

Great job on your wiki. You too seem to work great together as a team, as your wiki’s color, style, and theme seems consistent throughout. You use a clean and organized layout with minimum gimmicks and pictures and just relevant information. I like the way you have all the different sections together such as books together, websites together etc. I would like to see your paper (summary themes) on the main page and not downloaded. It is an excellent essay. I would like to see it at the bottom of the main wiki under a heading called summary. I would like to see you insert from the edit screen a table of contents for all your headings. How it works is all your headings like books, websites, summary etc make sure those words are written under heading1 font not “normal” font. Then when all headings are rewritten under heading1, go to top and click insert table of contents. I would like to see the correct APA references for those youtube videos. You can find it in the APA book. Please remove the wiki instructions at bottom of your wiki from the teacher, as they are no longer needed. This is not necessary, but I would like to read a one sentence statement or quote from each of you at the bottom of page about your one favorite self care practice and how it is bringing joy or changes to you.

Wiki Eval (Mike Bruno)
Hi Guys,

Really a very nice job on your wiki! What an important topic and one that seems to be very under appreciated. I was having a conversation with a friend the other day and we discussed the epidemic number of people who don’t care for themselves. I am a big believer in preventiative medicine, and I think this is one of the best ways to minimize health issues. This may be one of the best wikis I have seen as it is very professional, clean and neat. I typically like pages that have a lot of photos, but the absence of photos actually looks even better; it looks like an actual web page! The quality of your sources is excellent, and the introductions are simple, yet to the point. The only things I would be aware of is possibly indenting the second line on citations. I had some issues with my page, and it seems it may be a program issue. The other point is keep an eye on grammar and capitalization as there were a few I’s that were iiiii’s. I know I am being really picky, but that’s because your work is that good!

Good luck with the rest of the course!

Mike

Hello,
The two of you did a great job on your project. I especially like that you have all of your information very organized and put together as one Wiki. I have noticed with others including myself that the wiki was posted more as an individual wiki. The power points were helpful in listing ideas of things we can do as easy as flossing or stretching. I also like your descriptions of the peer review articles. It is hard to find things that need to be fixed. You could maybe add a few more pictures and fix a couple grammar issues.
Good job!

You both did a wonderful job with your wiki, my partner and I also had self-care and I can say that I learned a lot from all the research. Your organization is wonderful, great job. There are a few suggestions I would like to make, the first one being grammar, you have a lot of "i's" that need to be capitalized with a few other minor grammatical errors. Have some one other than your partner read over what you are writing; I am always amazed by the mistakes I overlook over and over but some one else spots immediately. I think it would be helpful to show the actual YouTube screen for your videos, it provides some visual entertainment. Maybe adding some more pictures would give your page a little more curb appeal.

Hello ladies, both of you did a good job on your presentation for your Wiki page. A couple things I noticed that need improvement on your page are: the Wiki page itself is not very visually stimulating but noticed your PowerPoint’s were. I also believe that the first PowerPoint was too lengthy with words, (too detailed, much of the info could have been simply put into the Wiki page itself) and the second PowerPoint was good but slides 6 and 8 were unreadable because of the color of font chosen for those pages. Also, the first three links were too many steps to open because your information was not directly placed on the Wiki page. Also, on the positive, I found your page to be very organized as you scroll down through the page and both of you offered plenty of information pertaining to your topic of practicing self-care. Hey Ladies!
You have such an important transformational topic and you covered it well! I love all the videos on self care and exploring exercising. Exercise is such a significant part of our lives and sometimes we do not realize how imperative it is. The PowerPoint’s are great as well. I like how the page is set up in sections. It really helps that your wiki has a sense of flow. Thanks for sharing great information!

Very, very good job on your wiki!! I love all of the links as well as your power points! I think that all too often we forget just how important self care is and you did such a wonderful job at bringing it to light. I also love how organized it is...it flows well and makes it easier to navigate when everything is in sections! Keep up the great work!

I really like the way you broke down your wiki into sections for the information you provided. I found the website reviews to be really helpful and one website in particular was of interest to me and I have been on there since, so thank you!! I would have liked to see more images on this page, maybe you could put the book cover images and then have the information about the books next to them? I think the page could have used a little more color or fun attractive fonts also. (Jennifer Powell)

I have read all of your comments and have found them all to be very helpful.
I agreed that the summary should be at the bottom and that I should open the link instead of just have the link sit there. So I went ahead and fixed that. I also read that many of you thought there should be more pictures. I completely agree, so I went ahead and added the book covers to the books section. I dont know how to make the YouTube videos show up, i only know how to show the link. I really enjoyed reading all of your opinions and comments.

I also fixed the grammer in my sections. I forget that im not on Word and it doesn't correct my mistakes. But I have fixed my errors. I also added a more detailed description to my sections as well. This goes for the book descriptions, website descriptions, video descriptions, and article descriptions.
