Inspiration & Altruism

By: Vincent Martinez & Anthony Troftgruben

(Vincent Martinez)

"Inspiration does exist, but it must find you working." - Pablo Picasso (Vincent Martinez).

Summary (Part I - Inspiration)

Inspiration is a powerful thing that happens through the use of our minds and heart. Often times, us people can do or say things that may inspire others without us even knowing it (ex: helping someone in need while going out of their way to do so). Other reasons for inspiration, we may watch certain films, listen to certain words or types of music, and even reading famous quotes that can speak or relate to us and inspire us to strive harder. These types of doings and sayings, can relate to all aspects of life (ex: sports, education, quotes, jobs, etc.) Sometimes, it is the little things in life that can make the biggest difference on us or someone who may be watching and we don't even know it. "Inspiration is the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative." (Dazkir, Mower, Reddy-Best & Pedersen, 2013 & Oxford English Dictionary, n.d.) When great things or life long goals are achieved by others, and people hear about them or watch them happen that are currently working to reach theirs, inspiration occurs. Knowing that someone else has achieved what they believed in and accomplished it, can make someone want to achieve that same greatness. Inspiration is what occurs to help guide and push people through the endeavors of their journey towards success. Inspiration truly is a work of art at it's finest, that occurs everyday. (Vincent Martinez).

Summary (Part II - Altruism)

What is altruism, someone might ask. Well, have you ever felt the desire to give a homeless person a meal, or some spare change? Have you ever gone out of your way to help a friend move their stuff from one apartment to another? Have you held the door open for someone who had their hands full. Have you ever done any of these things with knowing that you would get nothing in return? Then you have experienced altruism in your own life! Altruism, as defined in the Mariam-Webster Dictionary, is feelings and behavior that show a desire to help other people in lack of selfishness. Putting all of your needs aside, and truly wanting to help someone, is altruism. Humans, along with different species of animals practice this everyday and it truly makes life beautiful. Altruism is not something that can be taught, but learned through helping others, and seeing the amazing feeling of reward it gives after.  (Anthony Troftgruben)

I really enjoyed looking at this webpage. It is evident you took the time to research and post to most pertinent information in regards to Inspiration. I also liked the photos at the top of the page, and enjoyed watching the videos! If there would be one thing I would change, it would be to expand just a little on your summaries. Great Job on this webpage! Hayden K

AWESOME! I really love the pictures at the beginning, they really drew me in. I believe that you can list all of the references at the end rather than throughout other than for photographs but I may be incorrect on that. Try to keep your color of text consistent within each section. Also, I don't know if you would be able to but if you could provide links to access the journals it would be helpful to be able to access them directly from the page rather than having to search for the journal. It looks really nice though! Good work! Josie Ribelin

I really like your wiki page. It is really inviting and I love all of the pictures that are posted on it. Those are the first things that caught my eye and made me want to keep reading the information. One thing that might help is if you supply more information or a summary of the books and journals you selected you selected. Just going off of the title of the book does not really explain to me what the book is about or what it has to offer to our subject. I really like your wilki and think that you have a really interesting topic. Good Job. Tiffany Dempsey

Excellent wiki guys,
I thoroughly enjoyed going through your wiki. Like what everyone else is saying, great job on the pictures and photos. They captivate and draw in the reader and make everything seem more interesting. Secondly, the overall organization of this wiki flows fairly well I felt. The information connects to each other and is in a format that is easily accessible. I personally believe that one thing you guys could improve on is the descriptions of each bit of information posted. One sentence is usually not enough to convince a reader to click this link and find out what it is about. Also if it is possible, try to find your peer reviewed articles online and link them to the wiki so we can read them. Again great wiki guys! Keep up the good work. (Chris Oestmann)
