“It’s not selfish to love yourself, take care of yourself, and to make your happiness a priority. It’s necessary.” – Mandy Hale (Cori Pomroy & Kathleen

 Beauregard)

Summary:

In the wiki there are many themes to be explored one of which located in many of the resources are techniques used for the practice of self-care. There are many different situations, and examples of where one can practice self-care, and these resources mention many different ways to do so. There is a particular website on self-care located in the wiki that is a self-care starter kit and provide many links to explore and become educated about the topic and how to practice. Also, another theme discussed is self-care in relation to childhood obesity and how these two subjects can correlate with the promotional use of self-care to prevent and upturn childhood obesity for enhancement in the quality of life.  There is also a book listed in the wiki, “The Complete Book of Chinese Health and Healing,” that allows the reader to experience practicing self-care in a different culture. By bringing another culture into the wiki setting provides an example how important, and universal self-care really is. I believe one can take many different, life changing skills needed to live a healthier life: over all this wiki is much to admire and has potential to promote health care in one’s life, enjoy! (Cori Pomroy)

Self-Care for the Self-Aware: A Guide for Highly Sensitive People, Empaths, Intuitives, and Healers

by Dave Markowitz August 2013 (Kathleen Beauregard)

This book address different ways we are self aware and the variable needs people may have. Many of us are overly empathic, and many are extra sensitive to certain foods, medicines, situations, and people. This book tailors specific needs according to energetic sensitivities like lacking self care that resulted in pain, unhappiness, and other disease. It's a good guide to learn a more individualized form of self care.

The Complete Book of Chinese Health and Healing

Daniel Reid wrote this book, there is no link to this book because it has been mine that I purchased years ago when I was struggling with depression and anxiety.  This book covers a large range of self care topics such as, sources of energies, energy control, emotions, nutrition, spirit, meditation, traditional remedies, longevity, clarity, and food recipes. It is a large book, but I recommend reviewing it, it provides examples of how to practice each topic and is highly beneficial when learning how to practice self-care. (Cori Pomroy)

This is a very informative book about Connections in the brain that may trigger depression and how cognitive therapy, and antidepressants help in certain ways. In this book they are trying to find the underlying cause to be able to treat the individual before they become ill with depression.  It is important to be aware you are depressed, and there are many examples to learn how to control negative talk that lead to depression and practice becoming mentally healthier. Summary on the Practice of Bodywork

Dawn Carley

Personal

I chose bodywork for one of my transformational change practices. I thought it would be a good practice for me to learn how to relax, taking on the physical and mental benefits of this practice by using deep breathing exercises and stretching in yoga, therapeutic massage to manipulate the body and promote health by using reflexology and massage. I wanted to experience a deep sense of relaxation and learn how to put into practice a greater connection of my mind, body and spirit. I enjoyed taking on the challenge of being able to learn something new by being healthy, actively stimulating my mind and body to be able to extend as well as improve my quality of life.

Professional

There are many different applications for bodywork for example, yoga, Tai Chi, massage therapy, acupuncture, aerobics and chiropractic manipulation. By using the techniques of bodywork you can restore health and balance to entire body to promote a better sense of well-being. Using bodywork you will be able to give relief to your pain, whether it is chronic or acute and be able to improve your daily function as well.

Lesson learned

When I first began the practice I was unable to clear my mind and get my body to relax. I have learned to incorporate new habits of change by being able to practice yoga and learning the techniques of breathing along with semi-meditation and putting my mind and body as one. I learned how to focus my thoughts and energy so I was able to relax while increasing my positive thoughts and self acceptance. I am grateful for having the opportunity to choose bodywork so I am able to effectively incorporate this transformational change into my life. I will continue to use this practice in my life so I am able to improve my quality of health and life. (Dawn Carley)

I appreciate the stamens you open your Wiki with, it makes me feel that I need to go through your information. You support that statement with the research presented. I would like to see some web sites listed in the wiki, as well as a summary of the points that guided our research for the Wiki.
Great job, looking forward to the revised version

Great start Cori and Kathleen! This Wiki is very well organized and the headings of each link really helps to find everything quickly. With some of the increasing health concerns (bilemia, anorexia, steroid use) in sports settings for high school and college athletes, maybe some good health tips concerning self care in this area would be a good resource to have. I really enjoy much of what this practice has to offer and I'm excited to see your final submitted Wiki.

I really liked the quote that you had at the top of the page! It is important that the first sentences are interesting and the quote made me want to reach more from your Wiki. This Wiki is also very well organized and easy to follow with the big headers and colors. Great job! Something I was thinking about that might improve it even more would be to add some picture into your Wiki, to make it more fun :) And also maybe you could at the top also make a definition of what self-care really is, I am thinking of exercising and good nutrition but I know that it is much more above that.
Great work!

You had a nice opening at the top of your Wiki, the quote is something that I really liked. Your Wiki is very straight forward, and I liked the way it was organized. It is very easy on the eyes, and I can understand what each resource is about. I feel that you need to add more stuff about self-care, or a visual to catch our eyes. Still, good job on your Wiki!

Cori and Kathleen, great job on your wiki! I think the information you gave was very insightful, well organized and easy to understand. I think my favorite part was your PowerPoint. I loved all the inspirational quotes you included. The only thing I noticed were a couple spelling/grammar mistakes but there were very few of them. All of the books you referenced sound very interesting and I think I want to give"The Complete Book of Chinese Health and Healing" a try one day. Although you have many visuals in your PowerPoint, maybe for the final you could put some on this page as well. Other than those suggestions, I think you both have done an excellent job! Like everyone else said so far, that is a very good quote up at the top to start out with! This is a very nicely organized page that's easy to get around. It's straight forward which is nice and simple. Maybe you can add a picture near the top that goes with the quote. Great wiki so far!
